Workshops on the Rock Assistant: Aina Yasué

SSAC is pleased to welcome Aina Yasué as Workshops on the Rock Assistant, Summer 2018. Aina will be helping coordinate the youth workshops at Mahon hall this summer.

“I am a third-year undergraduate student at Quest University Canada in Squamish, where I explore the question “How can art promote inclusion?” My passion for the visual and performing arts have followed me throughout my life, and has grown and developed during my studies at Quest. During my time on Saltspring Island, I had the opportunity to capture people through film photography, film movements, embody stories through dance and music. The above practices became a foundation to complement theoretical knowledges I study now. At Quest, I have been able to start the process of locating the arts (film and dance specifically) in a cultural and critical framework. I also coordinate the Dance Studio on campus, working to make dance and other movement-based arts practices as accessible as possible. Due to the importance of community in pursuing the arts, I love to be in conversation with others who are also passionate about the arts, learning about what is required for an environment that nurtures artistic creativity and expression. For this reason, I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to work with the arts community on the island.”
