The Arts Council helps further the arts capacity of community members, organizations and artists.

To do this we provide limited financial support to assist individuals and groups, including visual and performing artists, literary artists and artisans.

Individuals and groups receiving Arts Council support undertake projects of cultural benefit to the community, in the visual,  performing and literary arts.  Artists and artisans have the opportunity to further their professional development–either through short-term courses or workshops offered on or off island by off-island instructors.

In addition, two one-year awards in visual and performing arts assist students with demonstrated artistic talent to undertake studies following graduation from secondary school. The Gulf Island Secondary School assists in administering this award in support of post-secondary studies in the arts.
