Artcraft is the summer show of artists and craftspeople from the Southern Gulf Islands and is the longest running show of its kind in BC, first opening its doors in 1968. It is run by the Salt Spring arts council as a venue to promote and provide a showcase for the wealth and diversity of the arts and crafts community in the Gulf islands.
When the artcraft committee learnt of Craft Year 2015 we thought it the perfect time to launch a new initiative to coincide with the celebration. We put out a call for local artists to submit proposals for outdoor installation pieces that embrace the spirit of land or environmental art, to form an exhibition for the summer. This exhibition expands on the high quality of work shown within Mahon Hall, bringing the ArtCraft outdoors into a public gallery space. Fiona Duthie Joan Carrigan and Donna Cochrane Stefanie Denz
Four artists were chosen: Stefanie Denz, Fiona Duthie, Ingrid Koivukangas and Donna Cochran and Joan Carrigan working as a team.
