Artcraft is the summer show of artists and craftspeople from the Southern Gulf Islands and is the longest running show of its kind in BC, first opening its doors in 1968. It is run by the Salt Spring arts council as a venue to promote and provide a showcase for the wealth and diversity of the arts and crafts community in the Gulf islands.
When the artcraft committee learnt of Craft Year 2015 we thought it the perfect time to launch a new initiative to coincide with the celebration. We put out a call for local artists to submit proposals for outdoor installation pieces that embrace the spirit of land or environmental art, to form an exhibition for the summer. Four artists were chosen: Stefanie Denz, Fiona Duthie, Ingrid Koivukangas and Donna Cochran and Joan Carrigan working as a team. June 12 marks the opening night of the 2015 season of the ArtCraft Gallery on Salt Spring Island.
The opening exhibition in the Showcase Gallery is AURA, a collection of works by visual artist, Nicola Morgan, accompanied by fine wood working by Ian Cobane and Barry Chattell.
ArtCraft will now be open all summer, until September 20th, daily from 10:00-5:00.

Salt Spring Island Easter Art Tour is on this weekend, opening at Mahon Hall on April 3rd, from 6-9pm.
The tour, held over the three days of the Easter weekend each year, includes a feature exhibition at historic Mahon Hall. Visitors then take a self-guided tour of participating studios around the island.
